The Rise of Lawlessness

As of this writing, we have widespread protests and rioting going on in America. Some are peaceful protesters out on the streets of America to protest the heinous and horrible murder of George Floyd by a police officer.

But many of them are connected to Antifa and they are insurrectionists and anarchists.

Their goal is to overthrow the current government of the United States… by whatever means necessary, including violence. They say that they are largely social leftists and anti-capitalists. What began as peaceful and orderly protests against the horrendous killing of George Floyd, is now being manipulated  as an opportunity by  Antifa terrorist organization to bring about national insurrection and anarchy. Their violence, pillaging and destruction is not about Geore Floyd at all: it IS about violently overthrowing the government and establishing a “new” anarchist regime.

Right now, many of America’s cities are on fire, and small and large business are being pillaged and looted. Over the weekend, the White House was under siege, the President took to the bunker below the White House, and several Secret Service agents were injured.

On June 1, President Trump said he will do whatever is necessary to restore the rule of law and restore safety and security in America. Twenty and more than 17,000 National Guard troops have been deployed.

Just as America was beginning to come out of the long lockdown from the Coronavirus and businesses of Main Street America were beginning to “reopen”, suddenly, we now have widespread violence in our cities.

The protests have now spread to cities around the world. On Sunday, thousands of people demonstrated in central London, chanting: “No Justice! No peace!” in Trafalgar Square before marching to the US embassy, where they faced a line of police. At least four solidarity gatherings were held in New Zealand on Monday, with massive crowds kneeling at a demonstration in Auckland.

What is behind all of this? Why is the anarchy and insurrection happening in major cities all over the world?

I believe that there is a spirit behind it. That spirit is lawlessness. This is the spirit of rebellion.  Let us see what light the word of God might shine upon this. What does the Torah have to say about lawlessness?

We see in the scriptures that there is a time coming when the man of lawlessness will rise up. We are certainly seeing an atmosphere of lawlessness in this world which may be the prelude to his coming on the scene:

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 2 Thessalonians 2:3

What is this “mystery of lawlessness”?

The word, “lawless”, (or iniquity in the King James version) this word in the Greek is: anomia and it means: The condition of without law, or being ignorant of it.

There are some other verses that shed light on this. We see that if someone has been operating in “iniquity” or “lawlessness” will be told by Yeshua to depart from Him:

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Matthew 7:21-23

Again, this word, lawlessness (or iniquity in KJV) is the same Greek word, anomia, the condition of being without the law (Torah).

Next, we see that this condition of lawlessness is a sign of Yeshua’s soon coming:

Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” Matthew 24:3

There are many signs that Yeshua tells them about. And one of them is lawlessness:

“And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.”
Matthew 24:12

So, let’s really get the definition of this word, lawlessness. It can be found in 1 John 3:4:

Whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law (Torah): for sin is the transgression of the law (Torah).

Here is our bible definition of sin. Sin is the transgression of the Torah. The word “transgress” in the verse above is anomia: which means:

the condition of being without the law (Torah), because ignorant of it , because of violating it

What is the answer to the anarchy and insurrection in the streets?  The answer is repentance. And what is the bible definition of repentance?

Return to the Torah. Stop transgressing and violating the Torah. With a circumcised heart, we are to return to the God of Israel and follow His Torah by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

The antidote to the lawlessness and anarchy in the cities across the nations is to REPENT and RETURN to the Torah of Yeshua! Let us pray into this!
