NATIONS' 9TH OF AV: A SET APART TIME & A SET APART PLACE

If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.” Leviticus 26:40-42

What is the “iniquity of their fathers”?  This passage has often been seen as a prayer of repentance of generational sin in a family bloodline. However, I believe there is another dimension to this “iniquity of the fathers”…. and it has to do with repenting of the sins of our “Church” forefathers.  Is there a place of blindness to sin in the church that needs to be revealed? What IS the sin of our “Church” forefathers that we need to repent of?

The Nations’ 9th of Av is a weeklong gathering from July 28 to August 6, 2020 in Jerusalem of Christians from many nations to repent for the sins committed against the Jewish people in the name of Christ throughout Christian history. We will gather on this SET APART DAY and this SET APART TIME to seek the Lord of Hosts in Jerusalem together as Christians.

The 9th of Av has been a very sad and dark day in the history of the Jewish people. The rabbis teach that it was on the 9th of Av that the 10 spies came back from their scouting expedition and gave a NEGATIVE report. (Numbers 13:32-33).

It was ON the 9th of Av in 586 BC that Nebuchadnezzar and his troops breached the walls of Jerusalem and then the FIRST TEMPLE was burned down and destroyed.

It was ON the 9th of Av in 70 AD that the Roman army under the command of Titus breached the walls of Jerusalem and then the SECOND TEMPLE was burned down and destroyed.

It was ON the 9th of Av in 136 AD that Jerusalem was rebuilt and renamed as the Roman city, Aelia Capitolina, the land of Israel (Judea, Samaria, Galilee) was renamed “Syria-Palaestina” (Palestine).

It was ON the 9th of Av in 1290 AD that all Jews were expelled from England.

It was ON the 9th of Av in 1648 that the Cossacks massacred an estimated 100,000 East European Jews.

It was ON the 9th of av (Aug 2, 1941) that the Holocaust began when Heinrich Himmler received approval from Adolf Hitler  to carry out  the “Final Solution” to the Jewish Problem.

It was ON the 10th of Av (Aug 15, 2005) that 8,600 Jews were forcibly evicted out of the Gaza. This was originally planned for the 9th of Av (Aug 14), but when leaders realized that this day fell on the 9th of Av, they moved it up one day.

On the 9th of Av, the Jewish people remember these things. They step into that time, this 24 hour period of the 9th of Av. And they remember. From the heart. They emotionally relive the pain of these events.

With the Nations’ 9th of Av, we are choosing to remember with them.  We are choosing to step into the “Set apart time” of the 9th of Av, and the “Set apart Place” of Jerusalem and we are choosing to remember alongside the Jewish community.

What can YOU do to help right the historical wrongs done against the Jewish people in the name of Christ and begin to bring healing to the hearts of the Jewish people?

This process begins with Christians owning our past – that dark basement in church history where the outrages inflicted on Jews in the name of Christ have taken place. We seek to shed light on that dark basement of our church history. We are asking that the Father would reveal the attitudes of our Church forefathers that have been carried forward to our present day, so we can repent of those attitudes and mindsets that led to such a bloody history.

So, what can you do?

FIRST, sign the declaration of Repentance to express your recognition and sorrow for the legacy of Christian persecution of Jews. As of this writing, more that 3,200 Christians have signed this Declaration.

SECOND,  order a copy of The LIST and the Companion Guide to The LIST to help you understand and process directly with God the history we have inherited from our church forefathers.

THIRD, look for information about 9th of Av “Events in the Nations” happening this summer. If there is no event near you, prayerfully consider hosting one.

FINALLY, pray about JOINING US in Jerusalem this on July 28-August 6, 2020. We invite you to join with other Christians from all over the nations who will be coming alongside Jews in Jerusalem on the 9th of Av. We will weep and remember with the Jewish community the tragedies they have suffered as a people. We will weep with those who weep and mourn with those who mourn (Romans 12:15).

We hope to see you in Jerusalem for this SET APART TIME and at this SET APART PLACE!
